Frequently,
users have complained that we have not set up our server
extensions to handle sending e-mail via forms. This typically
happens when you create a form and then right click on it and
go to properties. This is the area that allows you to specify
the e-mail address that will receive the form information.
We
have already configured the extensions to send e-mail.
Frontpage 98 generates this error message because Microsoft
Frontpage 98 thinks you are running a personal web server and
want to configure FrontPage 98 to send e-mail through that.
You need to ignore this message, and publish the form with
your e-mail address in it.
You
should publish the form by clicking on
File->Publish->More Webs. You should then enter either
your domain name or IP address depending on which one works at
the time. You should not enter http, ftp, or www. Only your
domain name or IP address. Then you need to click OK and then
login to your site.
Your
page should publish ok unless your extensions are corrupted or
you have too many files. We contacted Microsoft and they
stated that 300 files may be a good upper limit for subwebs
and root webs(re: server time out errors with FP 98).
If
for some reason the e-mail address is still not in the form
after a publishing update, you need to try File->open
frontpage web, more webs, your domain name or ip address,
highlight root web and then click OK, type in your user name
and password. Then after the web is done loading, find and
double click on the form they want to edit. Frontpage editor
should open and you can right click on the form and go to
properties to enter your e-mail address. Then click
file->save and the new form will be uploaded to the server
without having to hit the publish button or file->publish.
