Email Software Setup - Netscape

Here are some screen shots of the mail options in Netscape. They are accessed from the menu bar at the top of your browser.

Select-'edit' then 'preferences' for Netscape 4 and above, for Netscape 3, choose -'Options', then 'Mail and News Prefences'.

The examples below show setup in newer versions of Netscape.

From here you can setup mail, news and general preference options such as appearance, behavior and automatic functions.

1. Expand the topic MAIL & NEWSGROUPS in the left frame of the preferences dialogue box.

2. Click on IDENTITY in the left frame.

3. Enter your personal information and your email address that you are setting up. In the example below DOMAIN.COM means your domain. At Orlando Web Solutions we use addresses like "accounting@networkshosting.com".

4. Click on MAIL SERVERS in the left frame of the preferences dialogue box.

5. If you want to use our outgoing mail service (SMTP) enter mail.YOURDOMAIN.COM in for SMTP server, where YOURDOMAIN.COM is the domain and suffix for your website.

6. For incoming mail, you can either edit an existing incoming mail server or add a new one. You may want to add a new one so you can save any old settings.

7. Highlight the server you want to edit and click EDIT.

8. Click the GENERAL tab of the Mail Server dialogue that opens.

9. Fill out the fields as shown below. Use YOUR SITE AND EMAIL INFO for the information in blue.

10. The USERNAME is the username assigned to that email address in the Control Panel, not the name on the email account.

11. Click OK (twice really, to close both dialogue boxes).

Note: you may also use your website IP address for incoming (POP3) and outgoing (SMTP) mail. If you do not know what this means, follow the examples shown above.
