Step 3
ADDING
NETWORKING COMPONENTS FOR YOUR CONNECTION
Required: You will nee your Windows
95/98 CD or disks. If you do not have the CD or floppy
disks then contact the vendor of the computer or call
Microsoft.
1. Click on Start, go to Settings, and go to Control
Panel.
2. Double Click on Network.

3. You
should be in the Configuration tab. In the Network
Components, if you see Dialup Adapter and TCP/IP you
can click on OK and go to Step D.
4. If you do not see a Dial up Adapter, click on Add.

5. Select Adapter from the list and then click on Add.
6. In the list on the Left side select Microsoft and
then in the list on the right side select Dialup
Adapter and then click on OK.

7. When asked to insert the Windows 95/98 CD or disks
please do so and then click on OK. If not asked, you
are fine.
8. If you see TCP/IP in the list of Network Components
installed you are done with installation of the
network components. Click on OK and proceed to Step D.
If you do not see TCP/IP, Click Add.

9. Select Protocols from the list and click Add.
10. In the list on the right side select Microsoft and
in the list on the right select TCP/IP and then click
OK.

11. When asked to insert the Windows 95/98 CD or disks
please do so and then click on OK. If it does not ask
you for anything then you are fine.
12. Now you should see TCP/IP in the list with Dialup
Adapter. Click on OK.
13.It should now ask you to restart the computer.
Click on Yes.
14. If not prompted to restart the computer, click on
Start, go to Shutdown, and then click on Restart the
Computer and then click Yes.

15. You have successfully added the protocols required
for the connections. We will now configure the network
protocols we just added.

MAKING
A NEW CONNECTION |

1.Double
click on My Computer and then Double click on Dialup
Networking.
2. Double click on Make New Connection
3. In the new screen, type in a name by which you
would like to refer to the connection.
4. In
the same screen, select the modem that you have on the
Computer if it is not automatically displayed in the
drop down list and click on Next.
6. In the new screen for the Phone number put in the
Area Code (due to the new mandatory 10 digits ) and in
the Telephone Number text box type in your local
access number then click on Next.

7. In
the next window Click on Finish.
8. You should now see the Connection you just created
in the Dialup Networking window. Select the connection
you just created by clicking it once and then go to
File and then Create Shortcut.

9. It
will tell you that it could not create a shortcut and
ask you if you want to place the shortcut on the
Desktop instead, Click on Yes.
10. You have now successfully created a new
connection. Follow the directions on how to get
connected below in order to use the Internet and/or
check your mail.

CONFIGURING
THE CONNECTION
1. Click
on the Connection once to select the connection.

2. Click
on File and select Properties.
3. In the connection properties click on the Server
types tab.
4. At the bottom of the windows, there should be a
section saying Allowed Network Protocols. The only box
that should have a check mark placed in the box is
TCP/IP.

HOW
TO GET CONNECTED
To surf the internet you must for connect.

1. To
get connected double click on the connection you
created on the Desktop. If you cannot find the
connection on the Desktop, Click on Start, go to
Programs, go to Accessories, and then go to Dialup
Networking.

2. You
should now see the connection you created in the
Dialup Networking Window. Double click on the
connection.
3. In the new screen, for the Username type in OWS Services ID and for the Password type in your
OWS Services PASSWORD.
4. Then check the Save password box.
5. Click on Connect and then your modem should start
dialing. It will then tell you that it is Verifying
Username and Password and then it should connect you.
6. Once you are connected you should see two small
computers beside the time on the bottom right hand
corner of the screen. Now you can use Netscape or
Telnet.
